Aeolianitic lime sands. Part 1. Calcination requirements. Suitable for lime production without prior beneficiation, but too fine for conventional kilns. Use of novel type of fluid bed kiln is proposed. Production of lime from Coffin Bay lime sand. Both a single hearth fluid bed and small rotary kiln are suitable for calcination, producing product with 84% available CaO. Estimates for cost of producing 23 000 tons hydrated lime per year are given.
