This report addresses processes and systems by which Lake Phillipson coal may be converted to fuel gases and liquids, sometimes with the simultaneous production of char. Published literature has been the source of all of the information. Aspects of the subject dealt with in detail include: - conversion of coal to gases and liquids, notably via any of the separate physico-chemical reaction routes of pyrolysis, solvation, hydrogenation and synthesis gas; - coal quality data; - selected high BTU gasification processes; - the production and use of low and medium BTU fuel gas; - liquefaction process options; and - current third generation conversion processes.
