Exploration for Olympic Dam type Cu-Au in the Myall Creek area, located 15-50 km north of Whyalla, comprised surface geological mapping and orientation calcrete geochemical sampling, together with the re-logging, petrographic examination and geochemical sampling of existing drillcore. Intervals below the mineralised Tapley Hill Formation were being investigated following the identification of primary sulphide minerals in basement clasts within a basal conglomerate. A 1 m thick basement zone having metal values of 0.37% Cu and up to 20 ppb Au was recorded below the unconformity. In addition, values up to 5 ppb Au and 5.8 ppm Ag were returned from calcrete sampling over subcropping Hiltaba Suite. However, further exploration work to look for a proximal basement source for this geochemical anomaly was terminated by a re-allocation of company resources away from mineral exploration.
