As part of the Broken Hill Exploration Initiative, solid geology interpretation was carried out over a large area of concealed prospective Palaeoproterozoic and Mesoproterozoic basement within the Curnamona Craton, to derive stratigraphic / structural and lithological maps useful for targeting potential mineralised units lying under shallow cover. Geological data obtained from records of hundreds of drillholes reaching basement, plus information from open file company exploration and published reports, was integrated with a detailed analysis of recent BHEI aeromagnetic survey data to define regionally dominant faults that outline the Benagerie Ridge structure and associated volcanic centres. Major complexly folded structures, geochemically anomalous strata in metasedimentary sequences, and brecciated, altered volcanic and igneous intrusions present many possibilities of hosting significant undiscovered ore deposits.
