Exploration of mainly buried Proterozoic metasedimentary bedrock for possible Broken Hill type Pb-Zn-Ag mineralisation and for Olympic Dam type Cu-Au mineralisation has been performed over two separate areas located 25 km north-east and 50 km east of Kimba respectively. Work comprised an aeromagnetic survey, geological mapping, ground magnetic and TEM surveys, and soil and rock chip sampling. Aircore drilling (10 holes, total 647 m) intersected gossanous iron formations at magnetic anomalies, and anomalous Pb, Zn, Cu and Mn at an EM anomaly. A 208 m deep diamond drillhole intersected two zones of anomalous Zn in chloritized gneiss and graphitic schist beneath 60 m of partially silcreted and ferricreted cover rocks, one zone of 12.9 m at 0.7% Zn being open below EOH. 0.13% Co was recorded in separate rock chip sampling of outcrop occurring near the intersection of a magnetic anomaly and a dolerite dyke. Latterly, the Cu-Au potential of the licence was investigated by calcrete and rock chip sampling, bulk sampling of identified anomalies, and regolith mapping. Geochemical results obtained from BCL sample processing and additional two-stage partial leach experiments were of low order and not indicative of significant Cu-Au mineralisation.
