A review of existing drillhole information from the area between Lake Frome and the NSW border targeted sedimentary uranium in Tertiary palaeochannels. 15 rotary holes totalling 1873 m were drilled in two interpreted palaeochannels, but returned no indications of uranium deposits of grade or size enough to be amenable to in-situ leaching. The redox cells encountered are only small lateral developments within the palaeochannels, and are vertically separated from the thick basal channel sands by mudstone aquitards, which apparently have acted to prevent deep penetration of the oxidised uranium-bearing groundwater and the establishment of significant redox fronts in the target units. After Brightstar withdrew from the joint venture in June 2000, there was little further exploration activity or expenditure on the project licences because Paladin was not in a position to sole-fund ongoing work, although the company considered that the ground still held untested potential for finding sedimentary uranium mineralisation. After making unsuccessful attempts to find another joint venture partner, Paladin decided not to renew tenure when the licence terms expired.
