Exploration in an area centred on Smoky Bay, 40 km south-east of Ceduna, targeted shear - hosted mineralisation associated with granitoids of the Hiltaba and St Peter Suites. Several lineaments were identified from aeromagnetic data. Undertaking geochemical exploration was considered to be of questionable value, due to calcrete horizons within the overlying Bridgewater Formation aeolianite, and bedrock drilling was seen as the only reliable exploration method. Reconnaissance sampling of quartz vein sets in coastal bedrock outcrops returned no anomalous values.
