A programme of inclined and vertical percussion exploratory drilling (56 holes, total 6637 feet) conducted by Noranda during March and April 1970 on leased private land subject to private mineral ownership rights, in the area of the old Kapunda copper mine and nearby prospects, failed to substantiate several purported medium grade intersections of base metal sulphides made by lessee Mr Christianos during his earlier drilling. Consequently Noranda withdrew on 16/6/1970 from their joint SML application that had been prepared earlier. Minor secondary copper mineralisation was indicated to occur in the weathered Adelaidean bedrock to the south-east and south of the Stockyard open cut, and abundant pyrite was encountered to the south of the Hillside mine.
