Heavy mineral-bearing palaeoshorelines of the Tertiary western Murray Basin were demonstrated to lie within the area of EL 2542 and the adjacent EL 2564. However, work undertaken previously elsewhere in the region suggests that these particular strandings contain a heavy mineral assemblage that is dominated by iron-rich, low value trash minerals, and that the prospects are buried under relatively thick cover materials. Accordingly, it was considered unlikely that any discovered deposit(s) could support a stand-alone mining operation.
