Ground magnetic surveys were carried out 70 km west - northwest of Ceduna over an area of masking Tertiary and Cainozoic cover underlain by an Archaean to Proterozoic basement of Mulgathing Complex and syntectonic Lincoln Complex and Hiltaba Suite granitoids. Drilling of resultant anomalies (with 116 aircore holes totalling 3419 m, that included one 59.1 m BQ diamond cored tail cut in hole KW112) yielded elevated nickel and chromium values (max. 0.27% Ni and 0.49% Cr respectively) at several localities in weathered ultramafic rocks. Petrographic work showed that the Ni and Cr are contained within magnetite grains in a schist of possible pyroxenitic or komatiitic affinity. Calcrete sampling returned anomalous Au, Pb and Mo, but it is suspected that the degree of supergene metal anomalism evident has been suppressed by the effects on groundwater circulation of impervious intervals within the near-surface Bridgewater Formation. No calcrete sampling was carried out to constrain the Cr/Ni ultramafic intersections. Areas north of the vermin proof fence within the Yumbarra Conservation Park were not explored.
