1069 square km or ~79.5% of the originally granted area of EL 218 have been relinquished to comply with the licence conditions previously agreed to with SADM for renewing of tenure at the expiry of the company's former EL 67. Work undertaken on the now relinquished ground portions has consisted mainly of regional geological mapping done at 1:20,000 scale during February-August 1975, to examine outcrops across all of the licence area for signs of mineralisation. 51 grab rock chip samples were described petrographically, and 61 rock chip samples were laboratory assayed. No significant base metal values were returned. In June 1975, 114 samples of groundwater obtained from bores, wells or natural springs were assayed for copper and zinc. All values returned were extremely subdued. An occurrence of copper-rich gossanous float mapped near Mangalo with up to 4800 ppm Cu was gridded at 200 m x 50 m and auger soil sampled for assay (182 samples collected), besides doing 1:5000 scale detailed mapping of ~3 square km and taking ground magnetic survey readings. Disappointingly, no significant base metal values were returned.
