Gold mineralisation associated with fracture zones and a possible buried volcanic vent within Mesoproterozoic Gawler Range Volcanics was the target of exploration in the vicinity of Yardea Homestead. A regional stream sediment and calcrete sampling program showed only minor gold anomalism, while ground magnetic and gravity surveys also showed but weak anomalies. A possible buried volcanic vent site, as indicated by earlier MESA drilling, was tested by the drilling of 37 RAB holes for 798 m. Low levels of gold and base metals were revealed, but further evidence for the concept of a volcanic vent structure was inconclusive.
