Within the now relinquished licence portions, parts of six traverses of reverse circulation aircore drilling (involving 68 vertical open holes, total 1918.5 m) tested 60 km strike length of interpreted heavy mineral sand - bearing marine beach facies strandlines in the Oakbank - Quondong Vale area of the northern Murray Mallee in SA. Best results obtained were intercepts of 7.5 m @ 3.56% heavy minerals in hole OK 214 (on EL 2470), and 6 m @ 3.80% heavy minerals in hole OK 210 (on EL 2461). The heavy mineral assemblage consists mainly of magnetite and iron oxides. A further 3 holes for 134 m tested the thickness of Quaternary cover in the north-eastern portion of the area, and revealed the existence of an excessive 20-40 m thick overburden to the target Tertiary strata.
