Approximately 894 square km or 37.6% of the former area of EL 2282 Barton East has now been relinquished at this licence's expiry on 13/3/2002 and its subsequent renewal for a second 5-year term. The now relinquished portion of ground, which is located 190 km WNW of Tarcoola, had been held as part of a larger joint venture area, and was previously considered to be prospective for concealed gold mineralisation which might have formed in basement rocks of the Archaean Mulgathing Complex. Following an assessment made of available open file regional magnetic and gravity survey data, regional soil calcrete geochemical sampling was undertaken during mid-1997 by Resolute Resources on a 1.6 km x 1.6 km grid, with the collection of 360 samples by auger drilling on the now relinquished licence portion. Resulting assay values for gold, copper and lead were uniformly low, and so it was thought that this ground would be unlikely to host large deposits of gold or base metals. No other field work was done on the subject licence portion over the remainder of its tenure.
