A 64 line km gravity survey, with stations located at 150 m spacing, was conducted to locate the position of the main Billeroo West palaeochannel within the northern part of SML 543, in order to assess the need to retain under exploration tenure the adjacent Johnson's New Dam ground. It was found that the undrilled channel portion lies close to the eastern boundary of the licence, but remains within it as far north as 31 degrees 12 minutes South. Nine open rotary holes (total 1255 m) were step-out drilled from the PMX62 discovery drillhole to locate the best site for coring the uranium-mineralised palaeochannel sands. PMX63 was chosen as the corehole site because its gamma ray log indicated a viable ore grade (approximately 6.6 lbs U3O8 per short ton) and because the hole contains the greatest aggregate thickness of high radioactivity (> 1000 counts per second) sediments. The 63A corehole was drilled to TD 132 m, cutting 10.2 cm diameter core from 105 m depth onwards, and after being radiometrically logged this hole was tested for its potentially available subartesian flow capacity for supplying drilling water (around 170 gallons per hour), before it was decided to plug and abandon it as unsuitable for the purpose. Comparison of the digitised radiometric log and drill core radioactive U assays from PMX63A showed a close agreement, with a derived log calibration factor of 1 lb U3O8 per short ton being equivalent to a log reading of 1302 counts per second.
