A mining and mineral processing feasibility study was commissioned by E-Z Corp. from industrial engineering consultant Davy-Ashmore in October 1971, and was completed in February 1972, to define all foreseeable technical aspects of the processes needed to extract zinc metal from Beltana willemite ore. The likely principal metallurgical process involves fuming of the ore when it is mixed with heated slags in roasting kilns. Other research undertaken was to examine possible on-site beneficiation of ore fines, and to establish likely metal recovery efficiencies were the resultant ore concentrates to be treated using direct leaching methods.
