This report summarises the drilling and coring operations conducted during June and July 1975 to obtain representative core samples of the Honeymoon sedimentary uranium deposit. The work was carried out to determine uranium content, associated radiochemical equilibrium data, and petrographic and metallurgical parameters, with a view to establishing the in-situ leaching potential of the deposit. Four rotary holes totalling 480.5 m were completed as twins - approximately 5 to 10 m distant - of existing drillholes, and are distinguished by the suffix C to the twinned hole number. HQ triple tube wireline coring was carried out over the uranium ore host sands sequence for a total cored interval of 74.13 m. However, because of the unconsolidated nature of these sands, actual core recovery only averaged 53.3%. All core was logged for lithology, and gamma ray radioactivity was profiled using a scintillometer. A comprehensive suite of wireline geophysical logs was run in the open holes, but a number of factors served to limit the usefulness of these logs. Core recovery in this drilling programme was insufficient to allow for accurate determination of the disequilibrium of the uranium deposit as a whole, but enough core was obtained to carry out all the petrographic, mineragraphic, analytical and metallurgical tests. The resulting data indicates that the Honeymoon orebody has many features in common with sedimentary uranium deposits of the roll-front type, whilst retaining a number of special characteristics.
