Gold, and copper or other base metal mineralisation hosted by Proterozoic metasediments of the Willyama Supergroup and by intrusive Mesoproterozoic granitoids, was the target of exploration in the Boolcoomata area, 40 km north-east of Olary. Regional soil (-80 #) and BLEG (-1.6 mm) sampling was carried out, mainly along traverse lines spaced at ~ 1 km, with closer spaced infill acquired in places. Several samples from coherent anomalous areas reported > 8 ppb Au. Rock chip sampling at a previously unknown old mine area, dubbed the Oscar prospect, defined a 250 m long trend with values up to 7.38 g/t Au and 11.9 % Cu. Initial drilling comprising four traverses of aircore holes over magnetic targets (196 holes, total 4360m) showed no anomalous gold, and had copper peaking at 700 ppm. A regional airborne magnetic and radiometric survey covered the western part of the licence with no significant results. Further drilling along a single traverse 5 km east of the Oscar prospect (36 aircore holes for 351 m) returned no anomalous values. Detailed mapping at the Oscar prospect showed that the prospective host rocks were of insufficient volume to host an economic deposit.
