Palaeoproterozoic gold, copper and base metal occurrences were the targets of exploration in an area surrounding the Iron Baron mine that, in a tectonic sense, incorporates parts of the Cleve, Middleback and Moonta Subdomains. Regional calcrete geochemical sampling on a 1 km offset grid, followed by infill sampling at spacings as close as 100 m, was carried out by Equinox during 1997-1998, which defined several potentially significant coherent Au, Cu-Au, and Cu-Pb-Zn anomalies. North Ltd then entered into a joint venture with Equinox in late 1998, which ran until August 2000. Following the assessment of data from concurrent TEiSA aeromagnetic surveys, which also had been infilled to 200 m line spacing at the new licensee's cost, drill testing of two gold-in-calcrete anomalies was completed (39 aircore holes, total 1070 m). The best mineralisation result was 12 m at 0.12% Cu in hole AHAC010. After a further review of all available data, deeper reverse circulation drilling undertaken by North Ltd during May-June 2000 at seven targets (33 holes, total 2379 m) failed to reveal significant mineralisation. No further work was performed after August 2000 until licence surrender in April 2003.
