By October 1973, Western Nuclear Ltd (a subsidiary of Phelps-Dodge Corp.) had completed development drilling in the Beverley uranium deposit area and had delineated three main orebodies. Preliminary feasibility studies for commencing open pit mining of the uranium resource were also completed by that company. Figures for estimated uranium reserves in the probable and possible categories were later released to the public in October 1974. After it had completed further exploratory drilling on the licence, without encountering significant additional uranium mineralisation, Western Nuclear ceased its JV operations in mid-1974. Subsequently, in February 1975, the Oilmin-Transoil-Petromin licenceholder group announced that Western Nuclear had fully earned the agreed 50% interest in the licence uranium rights through its expenditure of $1.25 million.
