Exploration for gypsum that may have formed in Holocene salt lakes of the Ashville area, 30 km south of Tailem Bend, comprised field inspections and the completion of 14 push tube coreholes up to 1.67 m deep for a total penetration of 13.02 m. High grade gypsum was located in Mason's Lake, and a Mining Lease covering this deposit (ML 6069) was granted to Meningie Gypsum on 6/3/2000.
