Palaeoproterozoic metasediments of the Hutchison Group, and Lincoln Complex granitoids, were the targets of exploration for gold, base metals and granite dimension stone in an area 40 km south of Kimba. Initial calcrete sampling indicated that calcrete was not sufficiently abundant to provide a useable regolith medium for geochemical exploration, and subsequent exploration was dominated by BLEG soil sampling. The 3.5 km long by 300 m wide Sugarloaf Hill prospect was identified with a peak soil anomaly of 53 ppb Au, while other anomalous areas showed lower gold values. Two programmes of RAB drilling into Hutchison Group graphitic schist, banded iron formation and dolomite at Sugarloaf Hill (total 38 holes, 1906 m) returned best intercepts of 1 m at 1.35 g/t Au and 13 m at 12.32 g/t Ag, besides encountering 2 m at 0.17% Cu, but otherwise yielded no significant base metal values. Concurrent with this work, samples of granite tors were collected, slabbed, polished, and submitted to market outlets for evaluation as building stone.
