When a third joint venture was entered into with Aberfoyle Resources Limited who assumed management of the tenement, the exploration targets changed to syngenetic, stratiform base metal sulphides hosted by gahnite-garnet meta-exhalatives. The application of this model was reinforced by lead isotope studies, which identified metallogenic analogies to the Tasmanian Mount Reid Volcanics. Aberfoyle undertook detailed geological mapping at 1:5000 and 1:10,000 scales, plus the acquisition of ground magnetic and ground EM surveys over several prospective areas. At the Kanmantoo mine area, two strong bedrock conductors were tested by diamond drilling (two holes, 461 m total depth, 254 m total core), with follow-up DHEM in one hole. Pyrite/pyrrhotite zones were interpreted as the sources of the EM anomalies. Gold and base metal values were generally low. At Mt Torrens, several conductive zones were identified, one of which (the Roskhill prospect) was tested by two traverses of RAB drilling (87 holes, total 1504 m). Again, gold and base metal results were generally low. Further rock chip sampling and geological mapping identified several new areas considered worthy of follow-up for Pb-Zn mineralisation. Aberfoyle then withdrew from the joint venture, and in mid-1996 a new, fourth JV agreement was negotiated with Pima Mining [see separate, detailed third index record for this Envelope].
