Exploration for basement-hosted, Mount Read Volcanic Belt - type epithermal base metal deposits and gold possibly associated with an inferred shallowly buried Early Palaeozoic basement high situated in the vicinity of Keith, has entailed a lengthy process of target definition, culminating in the conclusion that the likely dense intrusive basement body is probably too deep (at ~ 1600 m) to test drill. New work has consisted of the interpretation of existing geophysical and geological data, Euler depth deconvolution processing of past gravity data and its re-interpretation, field inspection of pre-drilling logistics, the conduct during November 2002 of a new, semi-detailed 1 km - 2 km line spaced, 57 station ground gravity survey, and 3D model imaging of the target gravity response. A planned infill detail gravity survey, to try to detect uppermost parts of the intrusive system that may project nearer to the surface, was eventually aborted and shortly afterwards the licence was surrendered.
