Exploration included an office investigation of previously reported mining geology, and 1:15,000 scale field mapping of quartz reefs and old gold diggings. Grid-based resampling of a SADM surface arsenic geochemical anomaly, undertaken via 25 x minus 80 mesh matching soil samples, could not replicate the earlier results, and so the contractor laboratory's AAS analytical method that was used originally is now regarded as suspect. Lodes mapped in the accessible No. 3 decline at the Thunder Queen mine were selectively grab sampled to assay pyritic quartz vein materials for gold (9 samples taken). Gold values ranging from 4 to 10 ppm Au were returned. These were regarded as encouraging, so plans were made to dewater the flooded deeper workings of this mine in preparation for further mapping and sampling, as a precursor to a possible resumption of small scale mining there.
