Exploration for possible buried Archaean to Middle Proterozoic hydrothermal iron oxide copper-gold deposits, in an area centred approximately 40 km north-east of Coober Pedy, has targeted a basement magnetic complex previously identified by BHP Minerals. A consultant's re-interpretation of aeromagnetic data suggested that the depth of transported overburden might be shallower than BHP had calculated. Ground gravity and magnetic profiling of seven anomalies was carried out to firm up drilling objectives, and the Reserve anomaly was selected to be drilled first, but altered company priorities then directed all ongoing activity elsewhere, and no drilling took place before licence expiry.
