Proterozoic iron oxide - associated Cu-Au deposits of Olympic Dam type, and possible Yilgarn Craton style Archaean Cu-Ni mineralisation in ultramafic rocks, Pt-Cr mineralisation in layered mafic-ultramafic complexes and Cu-Pb-Zn in acid volcanic sequences, were all regarded as viable targets for exploration within an area abutting the western margin of the Stuart Shelf, 80 km south of Woomera. Extended office studies were carried out to review available regional geological and geophysical information as a basis for validating this exploration philosophy, and conclusions were drawn concerning the area's depth of cover on basement, geometry of structural trends, and characteristics of magnetic and gravity anomalies. Changes to operating company ownership and difficulty in attracting joint venture partners hindered the execution of a planned RAB drilling programme. A ground gravity survey of the entire licence (254 stations read at 500 m x 500 m spacing) was the only field activity completed. This work disclosed a 0.8 mGal residual gravity anomaly in the north-eastern corner of the tenement area.
