Exploration for possible diamondiferous kimberlite in an area located north of the previously discovered Mount Hope kimberlite field has consisted of a review of earlier indicator mineral sampling results, and limited drainage sampling at Mount Wedge to test ideas concerning the age of possible kimberlite intrusion. It was concluded that the wide spacing of previous surface sediment sampling programmes would have meant that large parts of the region remain ineffectively explored for diamonds. A lack of indicator minerals apparent in two samples of transported alluvium sourced by the Mesoproterozoic Blue Range Beds outcrop on Mount Wedge suggests that the source area of these oldest sediments in the region probably did not contain any Mesoproterozoic or older kimberlitic rocks.
