An area of the northern Flinders Ranges abutting the northern boundary of the Gammon Ranges National Park, 85 km north-east of Leigh Creek, was taken up primarily to explore for possible economic tantalum mineral deposits. Following a literature review on previous exploration work done in the area, a limited programme of reconnaissance rock chip sampling of apogranite and pegmatite at Giant Head, Tourmaline Hill and The Needles was carried out. Assay results for the targeted rare metals were unremarkable, and failed to match the tenor of earlier reported values for such mineralisation. In view of this, it was decided to surrender the licence.
