In early 2005 Havilah Resources applied for and was successful in gaining PACE Initiative funding for part of the cost of certain exploration drilling on its Benagerie Dome acreage, to carry out a programme with these aims: 1). To confirm, better define, and extend along strike the known ore-grade Cu-Au-Mo mineralisation at North Portia (potential 20 million tonne resource previously identified by Pasminco, supported by Havilah's encouraging results from 2004 drilling), and to test Havilah's 3D-modelled Cu and Mo ore envelopes. It was also anticipated that a better understanding of the controls on the North Portia mineralisation would be gained from the additional drilling. 2). To test for other occurrences of North Portia or Kalkaroo style mineralisation around the dome, particularly where the prospective pyritic albitite horizon might be coincident with possible mineralising structures and/or be repeated in refolded folds. 3) To test the NE trending linear magnetic high in the core of the dome, along with some associated anomalous Cu and Mo results met with in previous, broadly spaced Pasminco aircore holes, for potential Ernest Henry style mineralisation. Twenty one inclined aircore / reverse circulation drillholes (total 3,238.5 m, including 1305 m of precollar AC drilling) were drilled on four prospects in the north Benagerie Dome, namely North Portia, West Portia, Bassanio and Arragon. Extremely difficult drilling conditions were experienced at all prospects, principally hindrances caused by hole caving and strong groundwater flows, which made drilling considerably slower, and sample recoveries generally poorer, than is normally the case in the region. Drilling of possible updip or downdip extensions to the North Portia main zone of Cu-Au-Mo mineralisation produced several potentially ore-grade intercepts in five of the thirteen holes, including 84 m of 1.03% Cu, 0.78g/t Au and 159 ppm Mo in NPRC 024. These and earlier drilling results will be incorporated into a new resources estimate for the North Portia deposit in due course. Drilling along-strike extensions to the south towards the Portia gold prospect clearly intersected the mineralised horizon, but here far weaker mineralisation was evident. Testing of possible fold repetitions of the mineralised horizon at the West Portia and Arragon prospects intersected weakly mineralised footwall rocks. Time did not permit further drilling in the vicinity to locate possible up-sequence rocks. In the strongly magnetic core of the Benagerie Dome at the Bassanio prospect, drilling found only unmineralised magnetite-rich footwall rocks. No ironstones, which would have helped to explain the gravity anomaly, were present.
