Continued evaluation of possible economic primary tin oxide mineralisation in the Prospect Hill area, 20 km north-west of Moolawatana Homestead, concentrated on infill channel geochemical sampling and mineragraphic/petrogenetic sampling of costeans dug over stream sediment and soil geochemical anomalies at the Southern Ridge tin prospect near White Well Bore. Other known tin occurrences in the Central Ridge and North Ridge areas were also reconnoitred to establish their comparative geological setting and prospectivity. During May 1994, a 13-hole percussion drilling programme totalling 461 m was undertaken, mostly on the Southern Ridge prospect, and also on the Central Ridge prospect. Economic intersections of cassiterite, plus a number of encouraging base metal and silver values, were encountered in several drillholes, with up to 6 m @ 2.33% Sn found in hole PHP15. This mineralisation occurs in quartz-biotite +- / fluorite / garnet / gahnite / magnetite / sulphide schists, where the sulphidic phases and cassiterite exist in textural equilibrium with associated silicates. Minor anomalous uranium, yttrium, tungsten and arsenic are also present in accessory mineral species. The mineralisation and adjacent wall rocks tend to be depleted in light rare earth elements and enriched in the heavy rare earths. A contemporary nearby SADME discovery of significant fluorite contained in a Cretaceous sandstone was visited and assessed. The fluorite occurs as a partial or complete replacement of calcite forming the sandstone intergranular matrix. Ultraviolet light tests showed that the fluorite does not fluoresce, so it is thought that locating any additional such deposits may prove difficult.
