3414 geochemical reconnaissance stream sediment samples were taken over an area of 277 square miles for NFM during the period December 1969 - August 1971, and analysed for anomalous Cu/Pb/Zn in Sturtian-Marinoan to Lower Cambrian bedrock metasediments. The samples were sieved to -80 mesh size and a 0.25g portion was analysed by AAS after undergoing a hot nitric acid or perchloric acid leach. Several places were identified where possible base metal mineralisation of economic interest may exist. These targets include copper and lead anomalies present near Arrowie Gorge, Bullock Head Gap and Mount Roebuck. It is recommended that another 11 copper, 9 lead and 8 zinc anomalies should be resampled on a more detailed scale to confirm their prospectivity. A number of mapped small mineral occurrences, which did not give rise to geochemical anomalies in this survey, should be assessed in the field by a geologist.
