A preliminary geological reconnaissance carried out within the Delamere district of the Fleurieu Peninsula has identified two types of marble with good potential as dimension and ornamental stone. These stones, a pink fine-grained marble and a banded dark grey-and-white marble, have been used in the past to construct historical local buildings, and the quarried source outcrops were found nearby. Unresolvable problems of gaining access onto freehold land where the quarry sites are located meant that no field investigations could proceed to obtain sufficient samples for cutting, polishing and evaluation, and it was decided not to renew the exploration licence.
