Exploration for a range of mineral commodities over relinquished parts of a licence area situated 80 km north-east of Orroroo has mainly targeted the Cainozoic to Mesozoic cover rocks for possible sedimentary gold, uranium, mineral sands and evaporites, while much effort has also gone into formulating more regional exploration concepts to address potential structurally-controlled epithermal/hydrothermal base and precious metal prospects within the deeper underlying Neoproterozoic basement. Work has consisted of a detailed review of available geological and geophysical data, the interpretation and modelling of anomalies identified in SAEI B7 survey airborne magnetic and radiometric data, a limited interpretation of SRTM satellite imagery for palaeodrainage identification, surface sampling of dune sediments for heavy minerals, and the examination of archived regolith drill core and cuttings, with one sample being submitted for palynological age determination. No economic mineralisation was found from the sampling undertaken. The source of an intense small radiometric thorium anomaly, located within playa lake sediments at a site lying just to the east of the licence boundary, could not be established.
