Subsequent to a partial relinquishment of ground and related data release made in August 2003, ongoing exploration conducted over a small area located about 25 km north-northwest of Manna Hill township, looking for possible Zambian type stratiform copper-gold deposits, has consisted of RC drilling of TEM anomalies and stratigraphic targets, geochemical sampling of the regolith for any mobile metal ion concentrations, and limited gravity surveying of the previously identified zinc anomalous Pauper prospect. In mid-2004 three RC drillholes totalling 258 m were drilled at the eastern end of the Pauper prospect to test the potential for economic zinc mineralisation within a 70 m thick dolomitic unit mapped near the base of the Adelaidean Burra Group sequence. However, this drilling was largely unsucessful owing to encountering difficult ground conditions, which caused all three attempted holes to be terminated well before reaching their target depths. Sporadic minor pyrite and chalcopyrite were noted in drill cuttings recovered from holes 23 and 24, often in association with clay/chlorite-rich beds. Selected intervals of the cuttings were analysed, and returned 208 ppm Zn from the depth interval 114-115 m in hole 23, and 331 ppm Zn from the same depth interval at TD in hole 24. A petrographic examination of the mineralised RC drill cuttings suggested that the contained metallic minerals were deposited from saline, sulphur-rich hydrothermal fluids that were also capable of carrying other, more valuable metals as chloride complexes. During 2004-2005, in the fourth licence year, the licensee continued to evaluate the Pauper prospect for its stratiform/hydrothermal zinc potential by undertaking a mobile metal ion soil geochemical survey, separate analyses of ironstone gossan samples, further assaying of RC drill cuttings samples, and by conducting a small gravity survey (6 traverses for 4.4 line km, with stations read at 20 m intervals). The new geochemistry results yielded maximum soil zinc values of 200 ppm Zn at the eastern end of the prospect, compared with up to 660 ppm in soils at the centre of the prospect, and as much as 1140 ppm Zn in ironstone cappings present at its western end. Additionally, re-analysis of bottomhole samples recovered from drillhole RC24 returned up to 816 ppm Zn, versus only 331 ppm Zn previously reported from testing of essentially the same interval. The gravity survey revealed low readings on all traverses made across the Pauper prospect, and subsequent gravity data modelling was unable to identify any dense, possibly mineralised material lying at depth below the already drilled section. In view of the inconsistent and subeconomic base metal anomalism, that appeared to show unfavourable geochemical associations, and also the lack of indication of better prospectivity at depth in the area, such that no joint venture partner could be attracted to fund ongoing work, the licensee elected not to retain tenure.
