Outcrop and drill core samples of magnesite-rich strata obtained from the Myrtle Springs and Witchelina deposits were examined petrographically to characterise the mode of occurrence and sedimentary history of the contained magnesitic material. A drill core sample from the Mount Hutton deposit which exhibited an elevated boron value over the depth interval 52.7-53.6 m was examined by using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) fitted with an ultra-thin window, energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analyser, to search for mineral phases in which the boron might be concentrated.
