The main aim of Havilah Exploration's PACE Initiative Year 3 approved drilling programme was to test the east-west trending, quartz-veined breccia zone that passes through the central Kalkaroo Dome, specifically in the footwall of the Kalkaroo Cu-Au deposit (Kalkaroo Central prospect) and along extensions of this structure to the west (Kalkaroo West prospect). This breccia zone was considered to be the most likely conduit for the fluids which gave rise to the stratabound vein and replacement style mineralisation of the Kalkaroo deposit, and it is known to be Cu-Au mineralised where intersected by previous drilling. Nineteen aircore/RC holes totalling 3359 m were drilled on 6 lines at Kalkaroo West, to test the breccia zone along strike at 100 m line spacings. A deeply weathered, northerly dipping (65-80 degrees) and westerly plunging quartz-veined breccia body, up to 80 m wide, was thereby delineated, persisting for 400 m of strike length. An envelope of albite-magnetite alteration around the body is overprinted by a stockwork of peripheral biotite- (+-carbonate-magnetite-chlorite) veining, which extends along strike further to the west. Significant and potentially economic Cu-Au mineralisation is closely associated with the quartz veining, but is not restricted to it. Native copper and very fine specks of visible gold are common in deeply weathered and oxidised portions of the breccia body. A small malachite zone occurs in the footwall to the breccia body. Significant gold and copper values are also associated with the peripheral biotite- (carbonate-magnetite-chlorite) veining in fresh rock, where chalcopyrite occurs as 'Kalkaroo style' veinlets, blebs and replacements of pyritic and biotitic laminae, particularly in the rocks of unit 4. Some isolated very high gold values (e.g. 20.1 g/t) are associated with carbonate- (+-biotite-magnetite) veining or beds, possibly of unit 2, while some isolated high Cu-Au values (e.g. 3 m @ 14.6 g/t Au and 7.61% Cu, from 129 m depth in hole KKRC130) are associated with very pyritic layers or veins. Examples of the best drillhole intersections made at Kalkaroo West include: KKRC097:- 78 m @ 0.5% Cu and 0.75 g/t Au from 75 m depth, KKRC102:- 76 m @ 0.67% Cu and 0.63 g/t Au from 123 m depth, KKRC127:- 81 m @ 0.48% Cu and 1.6 g/t Au from 78 m depth, KKRC130:- 27 m @ 1.18% Cu and 2.03 g/t Au from 123 m depth, and KKRC125:- 39m @ 1.18% Cu and 0.86 g/t Au from 114 m depth. Two holes drilled to test for shallow oxide mineralisation on a line 1.3km along the structure to the west, reported only scattered weak gold and copper results (maximum 3 m @ 0.89 g/t Au and 2250 ppm Cu). Eight aircore/RC holes totalling 1169 m were drilled at Kalkaroo Central, on five lines also spaced at 100 m intervals. These holes outlined a similar but apparently more poorly mineralised quartz-vein breccia zone persisting over 400 m of strike length. Broad intervals of low grade copper and narrower intervals of significant gold values were reported, with examples of the best being: KKRC119:- 61 m @ 0.15% Cu from 56 m depth, KKRC120:- 15 m @ 1.68 g/t Au from 96 m depth, including 6 m @ 3.27 g/t from 105 m depth, and KKRC123:- 51 m @ 0.36 g/t. Difficulties were experienced when drilling within the breccia zone at both prospects, and significant amounts of water were encountered, which should be taken into account when considering the assays. The PACE-funded drilling programme thus carried out at Kalkaroo West and Central has been very successful in that it has confirmed the mineralisation model, has delineated new, significant and potentially economic mineralisation, and has greatly improved the knowledge of the local geology and controls on mineralisation. The drilling completed to date has only partially tested the breccia zones at both prospects, and further infill and deeper drilling along strike and down dip is required, where considerable mineral potential remains both within and on either side of the dome structure.
