Three potentially gold and platinum / pallidium - bearing, known primary uranium-mineralised targets in the Palaeoproterozoic Houghton basement inlier, have been evaluated through the conduct of office-based geological and geophysical studies followed by field reconnaissance and geological mapping, by sampling and re-logging archived drill cores from earlier uranium exploratory drilling, and by assaying 124 rock chip and soil samples, as well as by running a small ground magnetic survey over a tight bullseye aeromagnetic anomaly seen near Simmonds Hill, located 3 km south of Kersbrook. The latest mapping and sampling work carried out over the ground now relinquished from the licence area has confirmed the presence of an extensive alteration zone within the gneissic rocks of the inlier, which at Houghton prospect appears to carry quite widespread low order Pt/Pd mineralisation (ranging from 10-50 ppb), based on analyses made of past drill cores. A narrow zone of higher grade such mineralisation also exists at Inglewood (with up to 3.6 g/t Pt+Pd), but here the indicated deposit size is too small to be viable, while land access for further exploration is almost impossible due to urban encroachment. The new prospect identified from roadside composite channel sampling at Simmonds Hill initially showed promise for both gold and platinum/palladium, but later infill geochemical sampling could not substantiate the earlier assay values.
