Investigation of the potential of a known surface radiometrically-anomalous area 20 km west-southwest of Cleve to contain unconformity - style uranium mineralisation, inferred to occur at and just above the subsurface stratigraphic contact of Mesoproterozoic clastic sediments with Palaeoproterozoic metamorphic rocks, has consisted of ground geophysical surveys of the target locality followed by the drilling of one partly PACE-subsidised diamond corehole to test the model. In detail, the work completed to date over the Driver River Pan anomaly has comprised 135 gravity stations read on 13 N-S lines, plus 2 lines of dipole-dipole IP profiling, total 6.3 km, followed by 1 NQ diamond corehole drilled to TD 672 m. [Only the geophysical raw results and the geological litholog, plus orientated downhole structural information obtained from the drillcore, and core sample geochemical assay values, are available presently: no interpretative comment was given by the licensee in the PACE project final report.] It was stated by SXR in the final submission that the basic aims of this project have been achieved. In particular, "the unconformable contact between basin sediments and basement rock was encountered by the core from KAR001. The results of further petrological and geochemical analyses will hopefully assist in determining the chronostratigraphic positioning of the intersected basal quartz-pebble conglomerate and basement schist. Furthermore, core-based petrophysical information, which will be used to help design an electromagnetic method which will see through conductive saline groundwater known to fill the pore spaces of the porous sandstone units, is also being collected. Additional research is being carried out to assist in determining the viability of this concept". In addition, it was mentioned in the PACE funding proposal that this drilling project was intended to provide a sample core hole for geochemical/mineralogical logging with the latest portable high resolution spectral core scanner, which is being developed by ioSpecterra in Perth, WA. However, this option has not been carried out, because other analytical spectral devices are currently being evaluated for deciding on a preferred method of analysis.
