An area of ground located 55 km due west of the northern end of Lake Eyre North was taken up to explore for possible economic uranium mineralisation formed within either Mesozoic to Recent cover rocks or the underlying Proterozoic crystalline basement. Work performed was limited to a consultant's geological and geophysical office studies plus a brief field reconnaissance visit. This produced no evidence of the existence of fluvial palaeochannel facies having redox cell development of the sort necessary for the formation of sandstone - type uranium deposits. Rather, all of the observed and previously drilled Cretaceous strata were playa type lacustrine gypsiferous mudstones and ferricretes. Also, no firm geophysical targets could be generated that might have iron oxide - associated copper-gold(-uranium) potential which would justify deep drilling to below 200 m depth.
