An area located immediately north of Port Augusta was taken up to explore for possible economic gold, base metals and diamonds. However, continuing uncertainties concerning who were the correct holders of Native Title rights and a consequent lack of permission for going ahead with planned geochemical sampling (trenching and shallow drilling) meant that the work could not proceed, and so tenure was surrendered.
