During a search for possible economic shallow alluvial or bedrock-hosted gold in the district surrounding Marree, two grab samples taken at sites located respectively south-west and east of the township found traces of gold, including 15.4 ppm Au in a calcrete that had been sampled 'supposedly' near Goolong Spring bore (no sample locality GPS coordinates available). The licence was surrendered shortly thereafter due to financial loss incurred in an abortive Native Title clearance negotiation; access had been sought for planned drilling in the north and west of the tenement.
