In a search for possible economic uranium and/or base and precious metal deposits occurring in an area lying adjacent to the north-eastern shoreline of Lake Torrens, operator UOG, as an agreed option-holder over the subject EL 3725, undertook a prospectivity assessment of the area based on past exploration data gleaned from a literature review. Three targets were looked at: 1). The Beltana zinc mine lies to the south-east of the licence; however, it appeared that equivalent strata to those hosting this orebody do not trend into the granted ground, and so this style of deposit was no longer considered. 2). The second target canvassed was uranium and base/precious metal mineralisation of Roxby Downs type, but it was found that Western Mining had already unsuccessfully explored much of the geological sequence buried beneath the eastern shoreline of Lake Torrens, and yet had failed to drill through to the basement. Their single deep exploratory diamond drillhole had been terminated at 762.1 m depth, still within Adelaidean rocks. 3). The last target addressed was replacement-style uranium held within surficial silcrete. A small amount of silcrete geochemical sampling work had previously been done to the north of EL 3725, with a few samples returning up to 490 ppm U. However, many of the samples had yielded uranium values of much less than 150 ppm. It was decided that the requirement to better define this target was too difficult, and the likely required expenditure commitment too onerous, for either company involved to entertain continuing to hold the ground.
