An archaeological survey has been made of the remains of the Burra melting works, and in-depth research into the works' history and operation between 1848 and the present day has been carried out, to enable an assessment of the site's significance on the world scale as an example of mineral processing heritage, and to provide background for making decisions about its conservation management as a valuable interpretative entity closely related to the nearby famous historic Burra copper mine.
