In on-ground exploration of an area on the Stuart Shelf located 18-46 km north-east of Olympic Dam, possible economic sedex - style, Mount Isa / Nifty type stratabound copper was targeted within Neoproterozoic carbonate rocks as part of multiple commodities and mineralisation models being addressed by a large regional project. During February 2004, a total of four lines of infill dipole-dipole IP surveying for 1.4 line km of coverage were acquired at the historic Clara St Dora copper prospect, which lies about 8 km south of the abandoned Alberrie Creek Railway siding. Here previously worked outcropping secondary copper mineralisation is hosted by folded calcareous siltstones of the Callanna Formation, being developed at the margin of and partly within a diapiric breccia structure. Subsequently, in March 2004, a small RC drilling programme (20 inclined holes totalling 1163 m of penetration) was carried out to test shallow IP chargeability/resistivity anomalies detected along strike and down plunge from the old mine workings that cover an area of only 30 m x 30 m. Weak sedimentary copper sulphide mineralisation within leached bedrock was encountered in a few of the drillholes, which encountered fractured and highly clay-altered dolomitic rocks containing elevated metal values (to 0.48% Cu, 300 ppm Co, 370 ppm Ni plus minor As, W, Ba, Fe and Au). The prospect of finding an economic sulphide orebody in the vicinity of the old mine workings is now regarded as remote, but has not been conclusively ruled out.
