Exploration for possible economic stratabound or hydrothermal base and precious metal deposits associated with the Pinda Springs Diapir has addressed a north-easterly trending fault zone and lesser related faults that transect the diapir, on the premise that reactive diapiric breccias were emplaced along these structures, and that later diapiric growth movements could have created ore fluid - attracting dilational areas within or adjoining the breccias that may now hold metallic mineralisation. A secondary objective was to assess the iron oxide - associated copper-gold potential of postulated dense, ?haematitic bodies that a new geophysical data interpretation suggested may underlie the diapir at depth. The licensee undertook semi-regional stream sediment sampling (288 samples) and follow-up detailed soil sampling (303 samples) over the diapir to test the main exploration model, but the results of multi-element assays were not encouraging. Only a few single-point anomalies were returned, which did not imply any large occurrence of near-surface mineralisation. A tentative correlation was made for Pb/Zn values to be concentrated along the periphery of the major diapiric breccia bodies, whereas anomalous Cu and Au exist mainly within these breccia bodies. Field inspection of the low order geochemical highs revealed thin fracture fill mineralisation of the type worked at the historic Pinda Springs mine. No further work was carried out before the licence was allowed to lapse.
