Exploration for possible buried Ernest Henry - Olympic Dam style Cu-Au mineralisation in the Nuckulla Hill area, 120 km north-east of Ceduna, involved undertaking the following listed activities having relevance to the now relinquished portion of the licence area: - Regional scale gravity and airborne EM surveys, undertaken from 2004 to 2006, partially covered EL 3460 (data from 281 gravity stations now released). No gravity anomalies of interest were identified within the relinquished area. Approximately 20 line km of AEM were flown on the relinquished portion of EL 3460 using a flight line spacing of 1 km along north-south lines. Contractor Fugro Airborne Surveys processed the collected data (relinquished area subset now released). - Integration of the new gravity and AEM data with pre-existing data sets allowed separate analyses to be made looking for Tertiary palaeochannels with potential to host sedimentary U mineralisation and for late-time basement conductors reflecting a possible IOCG source. No such features of interest were seen to occur in the relinquished area. - 3 aircore drillholes, of a 21-hole programme drilled along an east-west transect which targeted a linear, up to 4 mGal intensity north-south gravity feature present in the northern portion of the Yarlbrinda Shear Zone, were collared on the relinquished portion of EL 3460. The source body causing this linear gravity anomaly, which lies in a zone of relative magnetic quiescence, was hypothesized to be a non-magnetic mafic intrusion that possibly was emplaced prior to ductile deformation along the Yarlbrinda Shear Zone. Proximity of the inferred intrusion to the zone of maximum shearing was thought to increase the potential for such a rock mass to form a very favorable chemical trap for gold-rich fluids mobilised within the structural conduit. However, the three drillholes reported here encountered only weakly altered granitic basement rock which gave no geochemically anomalous assays. After reviewing all of the data, the area now relinquished was interpreted to have no significant potential for finding either significant sedimentary uranium mineralisation or a sizeable IOCG-type deposit or gold-only deposit.
