Exploration for possible buried economic iron oxide - associated copper-gold (IOCG) mineral deposit targets within a large area of the central Gawler Ranges utilised existing and newly acquired regional gravity data to identify anomalous basement regions. A regional gravity survey was run across the entire licence in October 2003 (1415 stations read along 40 north-south lines at 1.6 km x 800 m station spacing). Seven interesting gravity anomalies of modest amplitude were seen, three of which lie offside from but close to the Yarlbrinda Shear Zone, while the others lie along south-east trending gravity lineaments. Two anomalies of amplitude ~ 2 mGal and dimensions ~ 2 km x 4 km were selected for detailed follow-up gravity surveying, by 219 stations read in July 2004 and another 175 stations read in March 2005, both giving 400 m x 200 m coverage. In field checking of these gravity anomalies it was found that they partly included exposures of unaltered felsic Gawler Range Volcanics, so it was surmised that the gravity response must arise from buried intermediate - composition volcanic strata of Gawler Range Volcanics or possible stratigraphically older (e.g. Palaeoproterozoic) units, and not any IOCG - type hydrothermally altered lithologies. Therefore it was decided not to proceed to drill test these anomalies. During the remainder of 2005 and subsequently, the exploration focus shifted to assessing the Nuckulla Hill region's potential to contain sedimentary uranium mineralisation formed in Tertiary fluvial palaeochannels. The available airborne radiometric data was reviewed and a field reconnaissance performed on apparent uranium channel radiometric anomalies, and this indicated that high prospectivity could exist on EL 3094 for such mineralisation. On 24/3/2006 Minotaur divested its uranium exploration rights into a newly floated company, Toro Energy Ltd. That company then set out to try to delineate rollfront uranium mineralisation - prone settings within the Narlaby Palaeochannel System, initially through conducting during July-August 2006 part of a multi-licence regional TEMPEST AEM survey (in EL 3094 comprising 168 line km at 1 km north-south line spacing and a nominal 120 m terrain clearance height). The resulting EM data was processed by the contractor to produce an image of interpreted depth to bedrock, that clearly defined a deep westwards-trending drainage that cuts across the south-western corner of the subject licence area, tracing the contact of the Gawler Range Volcanics lava flows against intrusive igneous bodies of the Tunkillia and Hiltaba Suites. Separate processing of the AEM data was also done by Minotaur to attempt to define late-time conductors within the basement. Toro Energy was planning to undertake appraisal aircore drilling of prioritised sections of the Narlaby Palaeochannel to explore interpreted convergent and meander channel features that might hold uranium mineralisation, but this work did not eventuate and no other field activities were conducted by either of the licensees before a decision was made to surrender tenure.
