Continued evaluation of indications of inferred Mississippi Valley - type stratabound lead-zinc mineralisation found in the Ten Mile Creek area has comprised the laboratory identification of the mineralogy of visually selected mineralised stream sediment heavy mineral samples, plus the conduct of ridge-and-spur soil geochemical sampling to try to better define the source strata for previously identified significant zinc and lead anomalism in the stream sediments. 8 heavy mineral samples were also analysed using an electron microprobe to confirm the mineragraphic determination of willemite as the zinc-bearing mineral species: 2 samples were thus demonstrated to be willemite, but the other six analyses were inconclusive. The Ten Mile Creek drainage system has to date been shown to contain scattered and sub-economic galena, malachite, fluorite, barite and willemite, and it is considered that further work involving field and structural studies by experts to better elucidate possible MVT deposit indicators, plus the conduct of reconnaissance IP surveys to try to outline geochemical and geological prospects, is warranted.

Notes: Continuation of tenure, over much reduced areas, from Austral Pacific's former SMLs 397 and 398 (see Envs 1548 and 1549 respectively). The technical report purported to have been prepared on work completed during the subject tenure period, as mentioned in the licensee's letter of May 1972, is missing, and may never have been received. Therefore no useful data exists for the field and office-based activities described. The Minister of Mines cancelled the licences instead of extending their terms, due to the overall unsatisfactory work performance and poor reporting that occurred for this project. Geographic Locality: South-central Flinders Ranges;Minburra;Wirrealpa Creek;Wilkawillina Gorge;Wilpena Station Doc No: Env 11878
