Exploration for possible economic stratiform/syngenetic base metal deposits and/or structurally controlled epithermal/hydrothermal gold and uranium occurrences within Lower Cambrian metasediments over the central section of Kangaroo Island included limited geochemical reconnaissance sampling of interpreted fault structures in the vicinity of Daws Diggings, the commissioning of a geological consultant's detailed structural/stratigraphic interpretation of all available geophysical data, and the flying during October 2006 of a 5503 line km low level airborne magnetic/radiometric survey (100 m line spacing and 50 m mean sensor elevation) to cover the entire licence area. Rock chip sampling of quartz-ironstone veins in bedrock and of quartzitic float exposed in the bed of the Eleanor River near Daws Diggings revealed only low gold values and some elevated uranium and thorium, the latter believed to derive from metamorphic monazite. Recommended soil sampling and ground geophysical surveying over interpreted prospective fold and fault structures associated with gravity and magnetic anomalies were not carried out before the decision was made to allow tenure to lapse.
